Teaching & Teacher Training in Tsum Valley

In the remote Tsum Valley, access to quality education faces significant challenges due to limited infrastructure and resources, such as a lack of funding from the government, insufficient teaching materials, and a shortage of qualified teachers. Primary schools in the area, typically established by the government or supported by INGOs (International Non-Governmental Organizations), struggle to provide even basic facilities.
This educational inadequacy compels parents to send their children to urban areas in search of better educational opportunities, resulting in a troubling trend where a considerable proportion (approximately 70%) of young students who leave for education seldom return to their valley homes. This migration disperses them across different parts of the country, disrupting the local community's fabric and contributing to a loss of cultural continuity and traditions within the valley.
While establishing new schools may not be immediately feasible, fostering connections with volunteers to teach in existing schools can be a transformative contribution. Mobilizing volunteers to support education in these remote schools aims to improve educational quality and encourage parents to send their young children to school, thus promoting long-term community development.
Furthermore, this volunteering experience offers a holistic opportunity for volunteers, combining meaningful teaching experiences with the unique adventure of trekking in the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes of Tsum Valley. By positively impacting education and cultural preservation in Tsum Valley, volunteers contribute to sustainable development while immersing themselves in the unparalleled beauty and rich heritage of the region.
